FULL DAY GUIDED FLY FISHING - SAN MIGUEL RIVER
With extensive public fishing access, the San Miguel River beckons anglers to experience one of Colorado’s last freestone (undammed) trout streams.
Clear fishable trout water, with abundant Stoneflies, Caddis, Pale Morning Dun, Blue Winged Olives, and Midges, are some hatches anglers can experience throughout the season. The San Miguel River offers beginner, intermediate, and advance anglers a unique opportunity to experience classic southwest Colorado dry fly fishing. Enthusiastic rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout abound with convenient prime river access between Telluride and Norwood and only 2.5 hours from beautiful Moab, Utah. As the San Miguel meanders its way through red-rock walls, scenic canyons, and forested banks, expect to be amazed at the river’s serene riparian ecology and fantastic trout fishing.
THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Think About Your Goals
What do you want out of your full-day San Miguel guided fly fishing trip? When booking, communicate with our reservation team and let them know what you’d like to focus on or if you have limitations. Want to have fun and relax with family and friends? Work on improving techniques and tactics? Perfect your cast and fly presentation? As we say, “it’s your trip”, so be sure to convey your goals and objectives in advance to maximize the experience.
As one of the closest guide service and fly shops to this prime fly-fishing location, the San Miguel River offers our guests quality fly fishing in a stunning river canyon setting – a great place to return to with family and friends year after year. Ask us how to “connect the dots” to include a San Miguel River trip as part of a regional day trip when considering other nearby activities or destinations like Ouray, Telluride, and Mountain Village.
As a freestone river, there are certain times throughout the year when fishing is extremely difficult for a short time during peak runoff in late spring and during heavy rains. The San Miguel River is most productive July through October, but snowpack and weather can allow start times as early as March and run as late as November. Speak to our reservations staff to find out current conditions and the best time to fish the San Miguel River.
On the San Miguel, some hiking and walk-wading in the river is necessary. Let our staff know if lite hiking is your limit. Our guides focus on catering your trip to your goals and skill level. Because we are going up in elevation, please remember to acclimate to elevation if you are coming from lower elevations. If you’re unsure, discuss it with one of our reservations specialists. Whether you are a veteran angler or a novice, our certified professional guides will provide you with a quality angling experience.
