This private party, full-day immersive row instruction provides oars people with a better understanding of river dynamics including hydrology, reading the water, environmental considerations and the hazards associated with recreational & commercial river rafting and drift boating. Apply prior rowing knowledge towards the complexities of float fish captaining a boat on your own.

RIGS Professional Guide Instructors
Our guide instructors have been training fly fishing, float fishing and whitewater guides since 2002. Our unique proximity to a diversity of waters is what makes our guide graduates so versatile. With over 40 years of combined experience guiding fly fishing and whitewater trips, each of our instructors has their own unique method of guiding. Their insights will help you to develop your own approach and techniques.
The River we teach on
We train all Drift Boat or Inflatable Fishing Raft Instruction on the Lower Gunnison River. The perfect river to give you enough challenging water features to enjoy getting out on your own but without rapids over a class II.
In addition to great resources, we pride ourselves on our high level of professionalism and help people explore what fly fishing has to offer. Participating in a RIGS Oars Instructional will give you a solid foundation to further enhance your float fishing exploration!
We will train all attendees in both Rafts and Drift Boats – our course uses Boulder Boat Works drift boats and 13′ NRS inflatable rafts. *We take care of transportation to and from the Fly Shop to the River. Please arrange to speak with our reservation staff in advance to ensure we can accommodate any special requests.

All Inclusive + Lunch
All tackle and rental equipment is included free of charge and provided by the industries top manufacturers. (Rod/Reel, Wader/Boot, Flies, Tackle and Transportation.) All Full Day tours include a riverside Charcuterie Lunch (locally sourced meat, cheese, crackers, olives, nuts, fruit, cookie) and filtered water.
Your instructor will tailor the day to meet your rowing goals; provide a safety talk with individualized time on the oars to improve your technique and help get the most out of the day. Our focus is to educate oars people on river fishing. *Please note in order to operate our drift boats, prior river rowing experience is required, otherwise inflatable oar boat is utilized.

Understanding Your Environment

In order to legally fish in the State of Colorado, anyone 16 years or older must possess a valid Colorado State Fishing License. The cost of the fishing license is not included in trip prices. Licenses can be purchased for periods of one day or more. We encourage you to purchase Fishing & Hunting Licenses Online prior to your trip.
