RIGS Fly Shop & Guide Service is now seeking experienced professional float fishing guides for the 2024 season. Known as one of the top wilderness float fishing sections in North America, the Gunnison Gorge's remote backcountry setting and technical whitewater demand a high level of competency in multidisciplinary fields, including professional whitewater guide, professional fly fishing guide, backcountry wilderness overnight guide, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Responsibilities
- Client Assessment & Risk Management – identifying client needs, wants, physical condition, and limitations. Ensuring a high level of safety, client care/comfort, and professionalism. From fly fishing, rafting, camping, and meals - you will need to have a heightened awareness of your client's needs and how to fulfill them in a safe and educational manner.
- Understanding your Environment (Wilderness Ethics, Leave No Trace, Safety in the Backcountry setting, and accessing your clients and their ability/comfort level in remote settings.)
- River Rescue and Emergency Response - Company Protocols and Procedures.
- Proper Care and Use of: All overnight camp and kitchen gear, raft rigging and fly fishing equipment and tackle. The ability to identify issues and address them in a wilderness setting is essential.
- High Level of Personal Fly Fishing Skills - *consistently able to get clients of all ability levels into fish, expedited rigging and tackle systems from a float guide perspective.
Qualifications
- Pre-existing Trip Leader (TL) or Guide Instructor (GI) experience in the State of Colorado
- Certified in Swiftwater Rescue Training (SRT) – required for all Gunnison Gorge Guides.
- Prior experience guiding commercially on Class III+ whitewater.
- High level of float fishing competency on technical whitewater via inflatable oar rafts.
Job Benefits
- Job Type: Seasonal – FT or PT available depending on experience/availability.
- Gunnison Gorge Pay Rate: $300 to $400.00 per day, depending on competency level and Trip Leading abilities, availability, and employment status. Plus Gratuity.
