Two-Day Overnight Fly Fishing Adventure in Colorado’s High Country

HIGH COUNTRY OVERNIGHT FLY FISHING IN THE HEART OF COLORADOS SAN JUAN MOUNTAINS

With their headwaters protected in the remote Uncompahgre Wilderness, the Forks of the Cimarron River and the tailwater section of Big Cimarron River below Silverjack Reservoir offer quality fly fishing for native cutthroat, brook and rainbow trout within the heart of the expansive Uncompahgre National Forest Service in the San Juan Mountains. One of the most beautiful settings in Colorado, the Cimarron High Country Rivers offer guests wonderful opportunities for solitude on this all-inclusive overnight camping and guided fly fishing experience. This scenic high alpine backcountry delivers more than 25+ miles of access to multiple creeks, streams and rivers.

“You’ll be amazed by the diversity of landscape, from alpine tundra to majestic spires, pinnacles and castles blocking the sun to dark, green forests carpeting steep mountains. And water, water everywhere.”
– Mark D. Williams (Author) Fly Fishing Southwest Colorado

Work on improving your walk wade fly fishing tactics. As we say, “It’s your trip,” so convey your goals in advance to maximize the experience.

Accessibility
Our access to the high country is centrally located between Ridgway, Ouray, and Silverton, an easy drive from our shop, with vast angler access, covering countless miles of creeks and streams. On the overnight Cimarron high country trips, hiking is necessary to truly enjoy this fantastic resource. Let our staff know what type of hiking you are capable of. We can limit it to lite hiking or adjust to get deeper into areas that require rock scrambling and a hiking adventure to access seldom-visited waters. Remember to acclimate prior to your overnight high-country trip because you will be going up 9000 Ft. in elevation.

We Know Cimarron River High Country Creeks and Streams
As the longest permitted guided fly fishing outfitter on the Cimarron River (Big Cimarron & Cimarron Forks), we have a long-standing record as both teachers and advocates of leave-no-trace principles; we pride ourselves on our commitment to preserving this beautiful resource; we are lucky to call our backyard fishery with a view.

Timing
Our Two-Day Overnight Cimarron High Country trips are most productive from July through September but conditions year to year can allow for start times as early as June and run as late as the end of October. Post run-off spring fly fishing conditions in the high country come alive with eager trout, active after a long winter slumber. To find out current conditions and the best time to fish the Cimarron River high country streams, speak with our reservation team. We can make recommendations to include the Cimarron High Country as part of your visit to nearby destinations like Gunnison, Ouray, Telluride, Grand Junction or Montrose, Colorado.
