Backcountry Tenkara Fishing Video Journal with Paul Vertrees
Join Paul Vertrees throughout the summer tenkara fishing on local water in some of the most beautiful parts of high country fishing RIGS and southwest Colorado area have to offer.
For my third and final installment in “Ramblin’ with RIGS” I thought I’d share with you an extended wilderness tenkara trip we put together last month. In partnership with Justin Mitchell, owner of Action Adventures Outfitters, we tagged along with one of his multi-day pack trips. Our destination was the epicenter of the Uncompahgre Wilderness in southwest Colorado’s San Juan Mountains.
I invited a former tenkara client, and now good friend, Ori Staub, to join me. It had been a year since I had met Ori and guided him on a tenkara trip on the Cimarron River. After that trip, Ori and I had done some backpacking and winter ski camping together, and had made an epic tenkara trip into the Mount Evans Wilderness last fall. I knew he would enjoy packing deep into the high country in search of wild trout!
After four days and three nights of stunning scenery, comfortable base camping, and outstanding tenkara fishing for feisty brookies and some surprisingly big cutthroats, we knew we had discovered a real gem.
Stay tuned to RIGS for news about future guided backcountry fly fishing trips! We have a lot to share with you!
