One Day Float Fishing trips on the Gunnison River during late summer and fall are amazing. This year, with the lower flows, the hopper fishing is not great. However, nymphing has been the ticket if you want to put a lot of fish in the boat and big fish at that. Our one day float fishing trips on the Gunnison River are all done out of Hyde drift boats and are very comfortable for a long day on the water. Seven river miles in length, allows the guide to keep you in great water, unlike a longer float were you might get one or two good cast and have to keep moving. Mid-September is a magical time of year to be on the Gunnison River; with water temps. cooler, the Blue Wing Olives are hatching every day. An average float fishing trip this time of year is nymphing for the first few hours of the day. At about 10:30 a.m. we will switch gears and fish nothing but drys the rest of the day. You can’t go wrong with a one day float fishing trip on the Gunnison River no matter the time of year. RIGS also offers three day float fishing trips through the Black Canyon of the Gunnison.
